Disability Access

Graduate Accommodations

Graduates requesting accommodations, including mobility assistance or an American Sign Language interpreter, should contact the Student Disability Services at (619) 594-6473 by April 15, 2025.

Wheelchairs

There will be a limited number of wheelchairs available for guests to use at no charge at the beginning of each commencement ceremony.  Wheelchairs will be distributed to guests with a valid ID on a first-come, first-served basis at the Viejas Arena meeting center (the small building immediately west of the main entrance). Wheelchairs must remain on campus and be returned within one hour after the ceremony’s conclusion.   

Guests using a wheelchair will need a ticket located in row 36, the accessible section of Viejas Arena. This ticket should be obtained in advance by a student. Guests who do not have a ticket in row 36 can check with the Ticket Office on the day of the ceremony to see if there are any available.

Disabled Parking

Graduates or guests with a DMV-issued disabled plate or placard may park in any ADA, Student, Faculty/Staff, or Service/Vendor parking stall on campus. Parking fees apply to ADA parking areas and placard/plate holders are expected to pre-pay or pay upon arrival. The following areas have ADA parking stalls:

• Parking 7, levels 1 and 2
• Parking 12, levels 1 and 8
• Parking 8 (Aztec Recreation Center)
• Parking 6

A courtesy shuttle will be available at the Calpulli Center located east of Parking 6 on Hardy Avenue. Please be advised there are no shuttle stops located around Parking 7 or Parking 12. Please consult the campus map to locate shuttle sites. 

American Sign Language Interpreters

Interpreters will be on stage for each ceremony at Viejas Arena. The ASL interpreters will be on the right-hand side as you face the stage. Please contact the Student Ability Success Center for additional information on seating for deaf guests.

Assistive Listening Devices

There will be a limited number of assistive listening devices available for hearing impaired guests at no charge. Listening devices will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at the Pass Gate at Viejas Arena. To check out a listening device, you will need a valid ID.

Streaming Closed-Captions

If you would like access to the streaming closed-caption service available for commencement, please sign in to the Viejas Arena guest wifi on your smartphone. Once you have wifi access, the closed-captioning will be available.
